Our Story

Healmatic was born in 2022 during Brittani's trip to Philadelphia & New York, where she embarked on an Advanced EMDR training with Jacqui Johnson and explored the transformative Mott Haven Hip Hop therapy studio facilitated by the late Dr. Edgar Tyson’s Mentee- JC Hall. This period coincided with numerous challenging life transitions and circumstances, prompting Brittani to envision something new that would also pay homage to her initial inspiration of what got her into the field of Mental Health: Hip Hop Culture.

On the way home Brittani was listening to Illmatic a legendary album written by Nasir Jones documenting the story of a marginalized oppressed youth living in America. This album along with many other inspiring albums and Hip Hop movements is the inspiration behind Healmatic. Healmatic recognizes how the elements and principals of Hip Hop culture have played a pivotal role in bringing healing and empowerment into communities of color and also into the Healmatic teams personal journeys.
