Embracing Self-Trust and Digital Entrepreneurship in the Wellness Space

Hey there, it's Brittani Williams, LCSW, and I'm thrilled to share with you a recent podcast episode I had the honor of participating in- Cafecito y Calidad Podcast hosted by the amazing Elizabeth Sanchez, LMFT. In this blog post, I want to give you a glimpse into the insightful conversation Liz and I had on the show. The podcast episode revolved around unconventional career journeys, trusting ourselves, embracing vulnerability, breaking into the digital landscape, and addressing the intricate nuances of mental health in the online atmosphere. Let's dive right into it!

Trusting the Unconventional Path: Liz and I both have unconventional career journeys, and in our conversation, we shared our experiences of navigating these paths. Trusting yourself in an unconventional journey can be challenging. Graduate school often pushes us toward traditional routes, but we discussed how listening to our inner calling led us to where we are today. We shared anecdotes of moments when we had to make pivotal choices and follow our instincts, our grandma’s being a major inspiration to both of us.

Embracing Vulnerability: As mental health professionals, we understand the power of vulnerability in healing and growth. In the podcast, we delved into the importance of being vulnerable with ourselves and our clients. Liz and I shared stories of how our own vulnerability has shaped our careers and our personal lives. We also discussed how creating a safe space for vulnerability in our work allows clients to open up and heal. we also recognize that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities may face unique challenges when it comes to seeking help for mental health issues. In our discussion, we shared insights into how we create safe and welcoming spaces for individuals from these communities. We discussed the importance of cultural affirming practices, understanding the nuances of different backgrounds, and acknowledging the impact of systemic issues on mental health.

Breaking into the Digital Landscape:The digital landscape has transformed the way we connect with clients, promote and market our practices and share our expertise. Liz and I shared our journeys of transitioning into the digital space and the challenges we faced. We discussed the benefits of reaching a broader audience and the responsibility that comes with it. Our conversation highlighted the importance of maintaining authenticity and ethical standards in the online world. We explored the challenges and opportunities of offering therapy online and how it has allowed us to reach clients not only in our local areas but also across regions like San Diego, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Riverside county. We've witnessed the power of technology in breaking down geographical barriers to mental health care by showing up on social media and podcasting.

Navigating Private Practice and Partnerships: Starting a private practice can be such an overwhelming task. Liz and I shared our insights on the process of finding compatible partners for such ventures. We discussed the importance of discernment and how trusting your instincts is key when forming professional partnerships. It's all about aligning values, goals, quality over quantity and a grounded vision for the practice.

Balancing Professional Life and Mental Health: As mental health professionals, we often focus on helping others, but it's crucial to prioritize our own mental health too. Liz and I shared our secrets for maintaining balance while managing the demands of our professional lives as entrepreneurs and social lives as mothers. We emphasized the importance of self-care, boundaries, and seeking support when needed. Our discussion shed light on the importance of rest, play, and self compassion.

Overall, my conversation with Liz on Cafecito y Calidad was such a healing experience. We explored the depths of our professional and personal journeys, hoping to inspire others who may be on similar paths. Trusting yourself, embracing vulnerability, adapting to the digital landscape, choosing the right partners and team members and prioritizing mental health are all key aspects of our stories. I hope you find our discussion as insightful and inspiring as I did, and that it encourages you to trust your own unconventional journey and embrace the beautiful vulnerability that makes us all human.

Thank you for joining me on this blog post journey, and I look forward to sharing more insights and experiences with you in the future. Stay tuned for more conversations and stories that empower and uplift.
